Executive Order 12532
Prohibiting trade and certain other transactions involving South Africa
This executive order imposes economic sanctions against South Africa's apartheid regime, prohibiting new U.S. government-backed loans, computer exports to security agencies, nuclear technology transfers, and arms imports effective October-November 1985. It also mandates that U.S. companies with 25+ employees in South Africa follow fair labor principles by year-end 1985 or lose U.S. government trade advocacy support.
