Presidential Notice 12957
Continuation of Iran Emergency
President Clinton extended the national emergency with respect to Iran for another year, first declared on March 15, 1995 by Executive Order 12957, citing ongoing threats from Iran's support for terrorism, efforts to undermine Middle East peace, and weapons of mass destruction programs. The continuation is made under section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act and is distinct from the earlier Iran emergency declared in 1979.
